Meet Our Team
At Doon Animal Hospital, we focus on progressive, friendly, compassionate service for our furry friends.
Dr Chris Haves
Dr Chris Haves learned to love working with animals at an early age as he grew up on a dairy farm outside of London. They had Ayrshire cattle and an awesome Border Collie named Kerry who herded the cattle up to the barn for milking each day. He taught her many tricks but couldn’t get her to stop wagging her tail when she played dead!
He went to university in Guelph, earning a Bachelor of Science with Honours in Molecular Biology and Genetics before entering the Ontario Veterinary College. After graduation in 2000, he worked in mixed animal practice for 6 years before focusing on cats and dogs exclusively.
Dr Haves opened Doon Animal Hospital in May 2010 (actually 10 years to the day of his first day in practice) and soon after moved his family to the area as well. He and his wife have 3 sons who are active in local sports. When he is not at work during warm months of the year, he is probably biking, camping or kayaking with his family. In the colder months he is probably at an arena or building one in his backyard! If you are brave enough, visit his place on Halloween!!!
They have a rescue dog named Molly and a Westie named Nash! Not to be forgotten, the two cats, Parker and Fisher!
Dr Ashley Albright
Growing up on a dairy farm outside of Ottawa, Dr. Albright knew from a very young age that she wanted to work with animals. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Guelph in 2015 and went on to receive her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine with distinction from the Ontario Veterinary College in 2019.
Dr. Albright lives in Cambridge and shares her life with her husband Connor, their very busy son, Grayson, as well as two dogs, Tucker and Loki. Outside of the clinic, she enjoys reading, baking, hiking and spending quality time with family and friends.
As a veterinarian who deeply values the human-animal bond and with special interests in surgery, dentistry and internal medicine, Dr. Albright is thrilled to be joining the Doon Animal Hospital team! She looks forward to meeting you and your furry loved ones!
Dr. Ashley is the newest addition to Doon Animal Hospital and is looking forward to helping her clients and patients get the best care!
Dr Emily Grinberg
Growing up with parents in the veterinary field, Dr. Grinberg was exposed to veterinary medicine at a young age and has always had an interest in working with animals. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science from the University of Guelph in 2016 and went on to receive her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the Ontario Veterinary College in 2020. Following graduation she completed a small animal rotating internship at the Mississauga Oakville Veterinary Emergency and Referral Hospital. She now splits her time between working as an emergency veterinarian in Mississauga and working here at Doon. Dr. Grinberg has special interests in surgery and emergency medicine. Outside of the clinic she enjoys hiking, cycling and rock climbing. She shares her home with 2 cats and a rambunctious American Bulldog named “Posey”.
Alexa’s career started at a young age, when she ran out onto a soccer field to present a letter to the local vet asking to volunteer with him. This led to a job with his mixed animal clinic as an assistant.
After 20+ years in the profession, she still is excited with what the profession has to offer, each day is different and exciting. However, she does not miss middle of the night calls to help a cow give birth! The thrill of helping companion fur-babies and their families drives her to perform to the best of her abilities.
Alexa graduated from St. Petersburg College in Florida in 2001, coming back to Canada and becoming a Registered Veterinary Technician in 2003. She has since completed a degree in Office Administration in Veterinary Medicine as well as the first two levels of Fear Free Certification.
Alexa lives in Kitchener with her husband, daughter, a geriatric Cornish Rex cat (Felice- “Fleecy”) and a Shih Tzu/ Maltese dog (Karmelle Sundae- “Karme”).
Brigitte is originally from Montreal and has years of experience in customer and animal care. She has 2 dogs, and 2 cats. Brigitte currently lives in Waterloo with her two daughters, in addition to her four legged crew. She is always happy to greet you with a smile and do her best to help you get what you need! You can find Brigitte at the gym, doing Pilates classes or exploring different trails in the area with the dogs on her days off
Gill has been in the veterinary industry since 2006. She started out as a kennel assistant at a small animal hospital in Mississauga, where she fell in love with the industry and then started working as various roles around the clinic. She has completed both the Animal Care and Veterinary Technician Programs at Sheridan College, gaining her RVT status in 2014 with the OAVT.
Gill currently lives in Cambridge with her husband Mark who she married at African Lion Safari. They recently grew their two legged family by welcoming a baby girl Amelia to this world!
Gill shares her home with her two cats Skittles and Gidget and her diva Shih Tzu “Oreo” whom you may occasionally see around the clinic, making sure everyone is working hard!
In her spare time, Gill enjoys watching movies, binge watching Netflix series, board and video games and eventually wants to start getting back into fostering kittens again now that they have an entire house as a playroom for them!
Julie has been with Doon Animal Hospital since it opened its doors in May 2010. She has been a Veterinary Technician since 1993. Julie’s passions include dentistry, senior cat care and, of course, meeting all of the new puppies and kittens that come through the door!
Julie is married with two daughters. They share their home with a domestic long hair cat named Foster and a new bouncy Bernedoodle named Oakley.
In her spare time, Julie can be found driving her daughters to volleyball, soccer, and to the ski hill! Julie also owns the Cat’s Meow pet sitting, which she started in 1994. She provides visits to homes for cat care while their owners are away, including many of Doon Animal Hospital’s patients.
Stephanie has always been passionate about animals and spent a lot of time volunteering in animal clinics and humane societies growing up. Knowing she one day wanted to work with animals, she attended the University of Waterloo where she completed her Bachelors of Science degree specializing in Animal Physiology. Following her graduation, she spent some time living in B.C., and traveling the globe before returning to school to become a Registered Veterinary Technician. After gaining her RVT status in May 2020, she got the opportunity to work with large animals on a Holstein dairy farm before transitioning to working with small animals when she discovered Doon Animal Hospital.
Stephanie now resides in Cambridge with her Australian Cattle dog named Oslo and orange tabby Rambo. In her spare time, you'll either find Stephanie on an outdoor adventure with Oslo, curled up on the couch with a good book, enjoying a movie, or attempting to cook a new recipe she found online...one thing is for certain though, no matter what she's doing, you'll always find her smiling!
Bobby - Client Care Specialist
Please welcome our newest member of the team, Bobby! He came to us in September 2022 due to a chronic on-going skin condition. he currently loves to sleep anywhere there is a blanket and will let you know when it is time for his afternoon snack. He is a very sweet bot and has been known to walk up front and greet everyone at the front door. He spends his week here at the clinic, but on the weekend, gets a little vacation away by spending it with technicians Stephanie and Gill, at their houses. Please give him a warm welcome to the team!
In Memoriam: Tony
Tony passed away in February 2019 and we still miss him dearly. He came to us for euthanasia in July 2014, but it was clearly not his time. So he came to stay with us! He was the perfect clinic cat, loving the attention and the hustle and bustle of a vet clinic. He loved belly rubs! In fact, when he was younger and little more active, he would come running when he heard children’s voices, then flop over in front of them for a rub!
In Memoriam: Timbit
Timmy came to us for euthanasia in June 2021. We decided it was not his time as we knew we could get his diabetes under control and we did just that! Timmy was an amazing addition to our clinic for 9 months and greeted clients all day long, while also laying on the front computer. He is very sadly missed by everyone!
